I haven’t been watching much TV lately while I’ve been writing. Now my book is with the copyeditor I have time to catch-up. And True Detective is turning out to be one of the best shows I have seen in a long time. This is the type of series that has all the ingredients for exceptional entertainment in my book. Primarily, it’s a detective story mixed in with a supernatural element. And, as a bonus, it’s also set in the South deals with dangerously exaggerated religion and objects reminiscent of the stick dolls from The Blair Witch Project.
Matthew McConaughey plays a brooding Texan detective to Woody Harrelson’s good ‘ol boy detective. Their performances are sublime and the style, vision and direction make it hard to turn away. I’ve nearly finished Season 1, looking forward to the next season.
